Course Description

For decades the story of Parzival has been a signature course of Waldorf eleventh grades around the world.   At first glance, Wolfram von Eschenbach’s Parzival is a medieval tale of knightly valor, composed in the early thirteenth century.  However, if we plunge beneath the surface, we may discover mysteries and revelations much more relevant to modern life — to our own life — than we might imagine.  The substance and direction of this course will arise largely out of questions from the participants, and the discussions they stimulate.  Key themes may help shed light on a number of contemporary questions:

  • With all the uncertainty in today’s world, how do we find our true selves?
  • What factors contribute most centrally to an individual’s identity?  Family background? Gender? Race? Environment? Strivings?
  • What do young people need from the world today, and what does the world need from them?
  • How can we learn to foster healthy relationships: between parents and children, between friends and romantic partners?
  • How do we develop empathy for others?
  • What can we learn about the nature of conflict and conflict resolution?

Online Math Workshops (for Parents and Teachers)

From the comfort of your own home, learn from Jamie York, a master math educator, by participating in one of our online math workshops. All of these workshops complement our highly regarded Making Math Meaningful™ books. They will provide you with a deeper understanding of our grades 1-12 Waldorf math curriculum.

We offer two types of online workshops: Grade-specific Workshops (with eight or more hours of video content), and Re-Imagining Mathematics Workshops (not focusing on any particular grade, with about 5 hours of video content).

Types of Online Workshops

Our Grade-specific Online Workshops for Grades One through Twelve will help you inspire your students with math for the grade you are teaching.  Are you feeling overwhelmed with the thought of teaching math this year?  We have a workshop to give you the know-how and confidence you need!  These workshops include tips on classroom management and how to effectively bring material to students so they benefit from true mathematical experiences (rather than memorizing procedures with little understanding).

Projective Geometry. Jamie York covers this very special math topic in his Projective Geometry Online Teacher Workshop.

Our Re-Imagining Mathematics “Wonder of Math” Online Workshop. This workshop is intended to inspire teachers to re-imagine how we teach math.  For years, Jamie York has traveled around the globe offering his Re-Imagining Mathematics workshops to teachers and parents.  Now, this Wonder of Math workshop has been recorded (and edited) so you can experience it in your own home.  This workshop will give you a taste of Jamie York’s approach to teaching math, without focusing on any particular grade.

Take any of our online teacher workshops at any time of the year.  Choose any start date for your 2-week’s of access. (High school workshops are accessible over a one-month period).  Certificates of participation available upon request.
